I am just searching for a maid on asiaxpat. Last time I used it there was no agency services. Is it obligatory that you use this?

No, it is not obligatory.
You can opt to have Evelyn help you pre-screen candidates and do all the paperwork for you. They charge HKD 2000 and it does save you a lot of hassle.

For Phil helpers it is not necessary for the agency services. But for Indo helpers it is obligatory, and it is not public secret anymore that the Indonesian consulate will only attest the contract if one goes through an Agency of their choice. The agency I am working for charge to the employer $2,250 and the helper $340 for doing all the paperwork of the Indo helper.
