since we are very pleased with our helper and the quality of work, when we take extended holidays we usually offer to let the helper go home for a visit.

we also give a list of items including washing of walls, taking drapes down, cleaning them, all the air conditioners and fans being cleared of dust, drawers being re-sorted, cupboards being wiped down, jars washed, etc. time consuming duties hard to accomplish while there are children around that they can complete in quiet while the children aren;t underfoot, and the daily duties like cooking and cleaning aren't necessary since we aren't there.

Add to the above things like turning the mattresses and dusting under the beds, getting duvets or quilts dry cleaned if you do that sort of thing, collect the mail, cook a few great meals for the freezer, shop for your return. Sort the kids toys. Sofa diving. Wash the cars inside and out, dust the books, wash the windows, apply polish to the floor, water the plants, collect the mail, take telephone messages, leave post dated cheques for any bills that may need to be paid. If you give her days off it may be nice for the other helper to have a rest period when she gets home if she has jet lag etc.
