Re-new or not to Re-new

What do you really expect from total strangers on this site? You've already demonstrated that you can list the issues and sort them into positives and negatives. The choice is yours (in combination with your husband) to make. Good luck, though, whichever way you go. There's always another option, although it might be totally unworkable for you - don't renew and don't rehire.

Think about this:

1. If you decide not to rehire her, how does would it affect your children? How sure are you that your next helper could be as VERY good as she is with your kids?

2.Cooking- how did you try? There's a hundred way to skin a cat, so I know there could be a hundred way to cook an egg so to speak. You said she can't speak english well enough, don't you think this is one of the reason why she has difficulty "learning" from your cooking lesson?

We all tend to forget, with or without a list especially if we are pressed with time. My experience, howere taught me that I tend to be less forgetful when I made the list or had discussed what we need or should be done with my boss.

How often is " always" on the phone? And the late night phone calls... were they during her own time or does she still has to work during those time? Personally, a conscientious helper should limit her calls during working time, whether or not the boss is around. After work however, is up to her own discretion, especially if she is using the house phone. Surely you think it's way beyond acceptable for you so sit her down and tell her what you think.

Also try to consider this: Which of these three is your top priority? 1. Your children being properly cared for. 2. House spanking clean 3. Meals that are very well prepared and cooked. Try to be a bit more understanding for whatever short comings she have with your lesser priority, After all, she is a helper..to help not a super woman.

Sit her down, and talk to her..listen to what she has to say , why she "failed" in some area and work on how she could improve. There's still time for that.

Good luck.

If she's good with your children, that is the most important thing.

Not cooking, I guess you can manage to do without.

Being on the phone, you can tell her it really bothers you and that she has to stop it otherwise you may not renew her.

You know what you have, but don't know what you can get ;-)

Good luck !

If you are not happy with her, then best to both of you a favour and set her free. Try someone new, that person might be good with the kids and quit talking on the phone all hours... if they can fulfill these 2 conditions then she is considered as "very good".
