Does she have to go back to Philippines?

My helper started with me last October - my first in Hong Kong. Don't quite understand why but she didn't have to go back to the Philippines for a week as others do and moved stratight to working for us. However, I understand that she needs to leave for 7 days within the first year.

We want her to do this while we are in the UK this summer.

However, she's told me that she doesn't want to go back to the Philippines and has checked with her uncle who supposedly works for Immigration who says its OK to exit to say China or Macau for a few days.

Does anyone know if that's true? What I don't want is to have to send her back to the Ps when we're back from the UK and I'm at work as I then am stuck with childcare problems.

Depending on how she left her last contract. You will need to clarify with Immigration. But I think it's right that she will only need to exit Hong Kong for a few days.

Having said that, if you want her to take her leave when you go to the UK, then tell her that is when she is taking leave. She should not dictate to you when she wants leave. It defeats the purpose of having a helper if she is not there when you need her to be.

I would phone Immigration and double check with them. She does have to depart HK every 12 months though.
