I have found an Indonesian girl I would like to hire - on the is website, thanx AsiaXpat - and would like information on which agency to use to PROCESS the papers only. (as I understand this is compulsory, and not wanting to debate the merits or otherwise of this)
Can anyone provide me an agency they have dealt with in the past? (That they recommend as less dodgy than some sound..)
How much should it charge roughly?
Will she have to return to Indonesia for processing if her former HK employer is relocating out of country before finishing her contract?

Indonesian agencies from my understanding all over charge (illegal). I believe you would be doing well if you paid HKD3000. Some will try to sting you for much more... ask your new hire to recommend a reasonable agency (for want of a better word...)

Magellan’s, I just hired my helper true some agency in Causeway Bay last November.
Find a guy name Joe or Christin, phone 2895 2333.
They charge me HK2,000 and didn’t charge from my helper side.
They offer me 2 years insurance for HK$850, but I have my own insurance company for my helper.
That’s charge was included: consulate authentication, medical check-up, and processing at immigration. It was Great services and can save me time specially I have my newborn baby.

I had two Indo helpers. The one with a finished contract payed to her agency (Sunlight Employment) only 10% from her first salary for the document processing. Another helper was terminated by her previous employer and had to go back to Indonesia, wait 3 months for the visa and pay to the agency HK$3000 per month for 7 months! She took it for granted and told me that it is a common practice, which was shocking for me. The trick is, due to some reasons you can not process all documents for an Indo helper without an agency as compared to a Phil helper who can do all documents by herself.

Please note;
Starting on the 1st of January 2009 all Philippines domestic helper are not allowed to process the document by there self. They should go true and done by the agency for processing.
It was happen to my friend last 2 weeks, which she would like to hire Philippines helper. Cause of due to the helper are breaking a contract with there previously employer, then my friend went her self to Philippines embassy. Currently the helper back to her country waiting for her visa to be approves.
But my friend advised by the Philippines consulate officer to find some agency to get helps all of the processing.
No idea why sudden the Philippines consulate are changed there regulations for processing.

Is this true about Filipina helpers? I haven't heard about it. Is it all helpers have to go through Philippines Consulate, or the finished contract ones can STILL process themselves? Just terminated ones have to go through Consulate?

For hk84, are you sure that you got the right agency you mansion about?
I remember that my pervious helper bought an air-ticket twice to Jkt and that company cancelled the ticket twice too at the same day after she booked. in fact that she paid fully paid already. Then she went to other agency to buy her air-ticket.

My indonesian helper, who I think is very good, but she could not stand my mums unreasonable way of preaching christianity (all unbelievers shall burn in Hell) and will not renew her contract. So I had to find a new one, thru a friend I found a new agent who charged me HK$680 (+HK1000 deposit) only. Which I thought is really a bargain, bcoz the old agent charged me like HK$2500.
