HI,

We are going to the Philippines on holiday in a few weeks and taking our helper with us (she is from the Phils). Another helper has told her we need to get an OFW Certificate. Any one know what this is, where to get one and how much??

Thanks

I know that my helper has had to get some kind of document from the Phil consulate every time that she has gone back over the last year. Not sure what it's called though. Whatever it is, it is apparently cheaper to get it here than back in the Phils.

It's one of those things that really winds me up. These girls are only here because they are trying to make money for their families that they can never make at home. They are Phil citizens ans passport holders. They bolster the Phil economy by sending virtually everything that they earn back. And then the govt has the nerve to expect them to pay for some document (not to mention trek into the Consulate) to be stamped every time that they want to visit their home countries!

As per mrsl's suggestion, I heard from my helper that it is cheaper to get it here than in the Philippines. Other than the Philippines consulate, I believe there is a place in Kennedy Town where your helper can get it too.

My helper thinks it was about HK$35 here and approx. HK$400 when she got it in the Philippines. Note the word "thinks" (she has a tendency to forget things I ask her to do)!

supafly you are right that it's OE certificate and it cost HK35.00 as Taytay said. However, you are WRONG to say that Sammy don't have to pay for it. HE has to ( and her transportations to obtain said Overseas Employment Certificate) because they are taking her with them to work. It's not as if she is going home for a leave.
