lifelong medication

we are thinking of hiring a helper who seems very nice, but her medical report provides that she has high blood pressure/hypertension and is therefore ONLY fit to work if she takes medication for life. Insurers have already confirmed that they will not cover this. Does anyone know whether this means that we will be fully responsible for costs of this (or has any idea how often this may be required and how much it would cost)? Also, if she refuses/forgets to take the medication, can we fire her as this would mean that she is unfit.

Thanks!

Our driver before was on medication for hypertension among others as well. what I know is that he went to one of the Jockey club clinics for monthly check-up and month long supply of medication. He paid about HK$ 36.00/visit.

She needs to queue up early morning-for morning session- or around noon for afternoon session to begin with. Then, she will be given specific time and date for the next visit thereafter.

You cannot fire a DH for medical reasons under the HK Law.

You need to weigh this issue, the medication costs ought to be able to predict. Already knowing how much the re fills cost in HK. Any other symptoms b/c of condition also need to be considered. For example fatique, dizziness maybe.

Many people in the world need medications, but they can still work.

Loads of people have high blood pressure - there is an arbitrary figure that drs use, it may not be that this helper has a real problem at all anyway. But agree, she can go to govt clinic - the meds are very cheap. Well worth it if she's a good helper.
