As a helper only has 2 weeks to find a new job at the end of her contract, can I assume that all helpers on this site who have finished their contracts more than 2 weeks ago are no longer in HK?

No, many of the helpers will place their ad well before they finish their last job. We advise them to place ads around a month or so prior to completing an existing contract.

Thanks, but I see there are 2 dates - date of posting and date of availability. If the contract ends on 1st Aug, for example, by today they should be gone, or have already found another job, correct?

Most of the DH's I met weren't actually available on the date it says they are available. I think sometimes the available date may have actually been when they placed the ad...? Anyway, we called and confirmed the contract end date with prospectives before scheduling an interview with them.
Also, some DH's that are still up on Xpat have actually already found jobs or have left HK already, not having found a job.
Ed - Not sure if it's possible/desirable to all sides/legal, etc., but it may help to list an "end date" in terms of when the DH will have to leave HK...i.e. asking them to indicate when their grace period would end. I don't know if DH's share this with your offices, but it would be helpful to potential employers... Not sure if it would help or hurt the DH's; haven't thought it through.

Generally the helpers have two weeks from the date they indicate their availability on their ad... I will have our staff who take the ads ensure that they are aware of this when they fill out the forms for the ads....

Thank you - we've just called 23 helpers from the site - and only 5 are still looking for work. The rest have found jobs or have left the country. It's a bit frustrating.

espanyvonne - thanks, would love to help but we need a full-time live in female helper, and I'm not in a position to sponsor more than one helper, I'm afraid. Hope he can find a sponsor.
