My DH asked to be released about 1 week prior to contract end to allow her more time to take care of her person stuff (visa, etc) but still wants me to state the official contract end date on the release paper to the Immigration Dept. I am a bit reluctant to do this. Has anyone had similar experience? Am I liable for what she does during the week when she's not living in my house but still officially under my employment?

Yes, you are responsible for her stay until the last day of the contract.
All DH's get 2 weeks after the contract ends to do the needful, so honestly she does not need one week from your contract to get sorted.
It is normal practise, that all DH's finish the FULL contract ( or until the last date of employ) before they are released to do what they want. In addition, the DH can also apply to Immigration for an 'extention of stay'if they want to stay in HK a bit longer.
Personally, I would not let her go earlier as that is the only way to ensure that everything has finsihed properly between you both!

Thanks. I also don't think that's a good idea but since she asked, I thought I'd check around to see what the common practice is.

Always stick by the rules. If you bend them they may come back and bite you in the rear.
