Air Ticket

Is it true that if the helper to be hired has terminated her contract with her former employer then she must shoulder her air ticket to HK? Meaning the new employer need not pay/reimburse the DH for the air ticket to HK? Several FDH agencies mentioned this. Please shed light to this as from my understanding, the employer MUST pay the travel cost to and from HK for each contract.

I will be purchasing an air ticket HKG-MNL for my FDH who has resigned. I am thinking if I should get her a 2-way ticket instead of a 1-way ticket to help her if it's true that her new employer will not pay for her ticket to come to HK.

Thanks GreenValleys. I suspect that the agency is trying to put one over her. I look forward to hearing from you on this.

Information from the Immigration Department Counter: The old employer MUST pay the ticket home, the new employer MUST pay the ticket back. NO MATTER who resigned/terminated/broke contract. Even if the helper only worked for her old employer for a month and decides she brakes the contract the employers must pay the ticket as stated above.

some agencies want to be more "competitive" therefore, they charge the DH the extra costs of the airfare coming to HK.. but they tell her it's included already, and same with the new employer, that the agency fees are already including it.

Yes, it's true, the DH will pay unusually more Agency fee than others... because the cost of the airfare coming to HK has been added on. The new employer pays less to the agency..... so agency is more competitive.

Oh wow, that's a rip off! How scheming such agencies are. I wouldn't mind paying this since it's the law. My helper did not pay a single cent when I hired her. I paid for everything. Same goes with my new helper. I had to monitor that the new one is not charged anything extra. I've asked her to report to me if there are things to be paid in the Phils and if there are I discuss it immediately with the agency. If I find that it's really an additional cost then I send money over. If not, I argue it out with the agency.

I just pity my old helper because she is being ripped off by these agencies so I told her that once she finds a new employer (on her own and not through an agency) then I will strongly recommend that they go through the agency I'm using. The airfare is not much to employers but could be a burden to the helper.

Most agencies right now charges the helper 4 months worth salary here... about 60 000 pesos..... (Philippines)..... that's why a lot of helpers who get terminated within the first 4 months, have heavy debts. The agencies won't process unless they come up with the money.... and when they do, and get terminated within 4 months, two contracts is already about $ 20 000 HKD....
