My Mom's maid will be going back to Philippines soon and she is thinking whether to hire a part-time maid or a full-time one. Her maid used to stay out (she signed the contract before the immigration law was enforced) and both parties were happy about the arrangement. Because of that, my Mom doesn't want a stay-in maid. Is it really illegal to hire a maid who doesn't stay-in? I heard that some people got exempted with special reasons. Anyone knows what those reasons are?

as I remember, before immigration allows helper to stay out( employer pay for the boarding house plus food allowance) if the house is small and you can't provide the place for the helper to sleep. Immigration will ask for supporting documents to prove that you can't let her stay in your house, But I think immigration dont allow it anymore. I remember a friend who tried this lately but immigration said dont hire a maid if you can't give her a place to sleep in your house.
They changed a lot of rules for the past few years. But still its worth a try
