Taking Helper to the UK

ORIGINAL POST

Our family will be re-locating to the UK, with both my husband and I starting new jobs in September. We are keen for out helper to join us and she is v. keen to come (she has family in the UK).

The issues we are unsure about are:

1. Our helper will have worked for us for 12 months (the minimum before applying for a UK visa) on 31 August, however we were hoping to leave Hong Kong for good in early August and take a holiday en route to the UK, and send our helper back to the Philipinnes for a decent holiday before she comes back to HK in September to apply for her UK visa. Has anyone come accross a situation like this and do they now if UK immigration have kicked up a fuss about it?

2. Does anyone know of any helpers that have been refused a vias to the UK, and what where the reasons given by immigration?

Any advice gratefully recieved - the Brit Consulate has been farily unhelpful so some first hand experience would be great!

Thanks Darling, but I was hoping to get some more info on the process with regards to the visa process. We've thought through the other issues fairly fully and discussed them with our Helper.

I dont think you will have a problem about applying her visa....many had done it successfully...the only problem you will have is when you are there and she will begin to ask you more salary with less working hour.

As Darling have said you be careful....many DH promises the world just for you to take them to UK or anywhere in the west....that didnt only happened to my friends 2twice or more...most of my friends who got the best maid they thought, they took with them...and after 2-3 months problem occurs when the DH begin to go out and talk with other DH there...and I will tell you its terrible.

As for my experience...back in UK you can see a lot of DH there already...you can hire them by hours...bec thats how it works there.

Hope this can help. Good Luck!

not yet at this time...all got it successfully.Well I dont know for others...but I think will be fine...and after you get the visa I think they will give you 3 months to decide whether you take her or not. within that 3 months she have to go there or else it will be cancelled.

Hi

My domestic helper has been working for me for more than 5 years in HKG and I bring my helper to UK under visitor visa (6months). Me & my hubby got the job and now I am planning to settle down in UK, therefore I will have to send my maid back to HKG and apply for working visa as domestic helper.

Pls let me know what are the main things/issues the british consulate look at ?

What’s the minimum salary household should have in order to have a maid in UK ?

How much saving at least saving we should have?

Or any other information important.

I really appreciate your reply on this.

I think you'll find that for your helper to apply for her UK domestic worker visa she needs to be in her home country to apply. So unless she is a HK resident she will need to go back to PH or TH or wherever to apply. The British Consulate in HK website (easy to search for) has all of the information plus forms and guidelines that you can download/print.
