You can start advanced renewal 4 weeks before expiry. Typically she will get the new visa before the contract expires. That's the whole point.

While you can get an agency to do it, renewal is pretty easy. Go to Immigration (or send your helper) and pick up a contract, fill it in...

Note that the helper gets 2 weeks (unpaid) leave between contracts. However you can ask Immigration to defer that until later.

i thought all dh must go through an agency to get papers processed.

u mean 2 weeks leave as in their annual leave or their extension of stay

In renewing a contract, a new policy have been imposed by the immigration that application for contract renewal can be submitted 8 weeks before the expiry date. In this case, you don't need an agency to handle it. The helper can submit the application to both departments (consulate and immigration). She will get her visa approval on the same day.

Hi Eva,

I think this rule is for helpers renewing with the same employer, if she is going to a new employer then the info Axptguy explains is the one to be followed.

gordhan, you don't need an agency for renewal with the same employer or if the helper is going to a new employer and has completed the previous contract.

2 weeks is the leave between contracts. This is separate from vacation days ("annual leave").

There are also some different rules applied by different consulates - Indonesia, for example.

Also, to clarify (I hope) the 2 weeks leave bit, it isn't leave as such because the helper is not even employed at that point. It is a 2-week period given by Immigration before he/she has to leave HK.
