Hi having recently terminated my helpers contract i understand that i need to pay for her return flight. Having said that, i think she may other plans etc. she asking for cash rather than the return ticket ? can she refuse a ticket for cash? if i give her an open ticket that expires few days after the date she is supposed to be out of the country have i then done my bit? - regardless of if she actually gets on the flight on not.
On another semi related point if a helper finishes a contract then moves straight into another contract in HK i understand she does not need to return to Phil - in that case does the employer pay anytthing - ie such as cash equiv to the departing helper?

She can refuse, but it is still your call just as long as she acknoledge in writing that she received it.
Yes, all the she is entitled to- ie air fare, unpaid ages, long service payment -whatever is applicable.

It's your call if you provide the ticket or give her the money. As you will be paying the same it dopesn't make any real difference.

I called the Immigration Dept about the best way to handle.
The Immigration officer said that it was better to provide a ticket and a ticket that is more flexible eg. able to be changed, because the employer has to ensure that the maid leaves HK and returns home, particularly in the cases of termination and when you know she hasn't got another job. He ALLUDED to the point that if you gave her money, but she spent it and her visa ran out, i would still have to pay for her ticket home.
