does anyone have advice on who makes better helpers/nannies - mainland chinese helpers or filipino helpers? and is it true that if you want to hire a domestic helper thru an agency, you must apply 2-3 months in advance? is it easy to find one already available in HK? thanks much for advice.

I have a Sri Lankan helper now & can say, she is far better ( in every way) than the Phil DH I had before. I have never tried a local DH.

The immigration process takes about 6 weeks if all the papers are in order. Start the processing at least 2 months in advance. However, if its gets urgent, you can request Immigration to treat your case as urgent, they do process it faster then.

All the best! :)

Even if one wanted to hire a Mainland Chinese DH / nanny, is it possible? I thought DHs had to be Filipino, Thai, Indonesian, Sri Lankan, or Indian. Is it possible to get a DH visa for other nationalities?

Agree with TC that Chinese from the mainland are not allowed to come to Hong Kong to work as a nanny or live in helper. I have a lot of doubts in Darling's reply. Arent there also cases about Indonesian and Filipino helpers mistreat children as well? Yet at the same time, there are horrible employers abusing their helpers. It is unfair that people just generalise things like that, without knowing the truth or only know a fraction of the story but talking as if they know it all.

If you need a good DH then look no further.

I am a Balinese girl with 6 years experience in Hong Kong caring for children. My cooking is fine and I can speak English and Cantonese fluently.

Offers from other people are acceptable.

Good that I made you laugh (^-^). Of course I understand Balinese is from Bali. I was just spliting hairs. So culture wise what is the difference between a Balainese and an Indonesian.

Very different cultures within the same country.

Maybe something to be considered.
