Do I still need to pay the levy?

Hi, my helper's contract ends in Jan 2009 next year but she's leaving end of this month.

Do I still need to pay the FINAL levy of HK$2400? Or can I pro-rata it because she's only worked 2 out of the 6 months?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

No pro rata of levy and no refunds. So yes you will have to pay the full amount.

I disagree slightly with evildeeds, when is your next levy due date? If your present DH leaves on for before that due date, you will not need to pay. Any new DH you hire from that point on, also will not have a levy (at least for 2 years according to the current regulations)

So it is a matter of dates hired, then released, and finallyany new hiring past 1Aug 2008. Go figure the HK Gov. if you can, I sure can't.

In fact, for example, if your current helper wasn't leaving you, you could have fired and re hired her and saved yourself the levy as well. Under the current regs. to do this, you don't need proof of income, or need to wait for weeks, it's just a matter of signing another set of green contracts just like you did before with the IMD ($160) and Phill Consulate ($300ish) and waiting in line for 4-6 hours to collect the new visa. An agency would do all of this for you for about $1000 including all the forms, processing fees, and standing in line all day to collect the visa.

Cheers

hkwatcher I agree with you but the OP did say the FDH is working until the end of this month so will be 2 months into the 6 months levy already paid. The actual due date is the 18th month (August).............OP will have to pay regardless......
