What to do ?

I have two helpers, who are sisters. One is going home for holidays in about 1 month... however, today, the other sister informed me, the one going home will probably won't come back to work because the family back home won't let her come back.....

What should I do? The older sister told me the one going home doesn't know yet, and I shouldn't tell her.

Both sisters are wonderful in our household, I know the one going home wants to finish her contract.

The older sister has done you a big favor. Use your time now to find a new helper and begin the application process so you will be prepared. It should take you about 4-6 weeks to get all the necessary paperwork processed for a new helper.

You will need to write a letter of explanation to the IMD about replacement reasons and they will hoepfully expidite your case. This will also make the Philippine family decide for sure and not leave you hanging waiting on their decision.

I would suggest you do talk to the one going home tho. Imagine it is all rubbish and she comes back and you are in the process of hiring someone else?

ldsllvn, how wise you are. It's exactly what I was thinking, so I did talk to both sisters. Sat them down, and just said what's on my mind. The one going home told me, she is definitely coming back to finish her contract, and she loves working here. The family issues, she said she will deal with it when she gets home, but she assured me she will be back.

However, the older one keeps telling me she's not going to come back.

I guess I really won't know until the one going home actually stands in front of me when Easter is over. However, I definitely cannot start processing someone else unless she resigned. So, keeping my fingers cross. I have no choice but to believe her.

You CAN start to process another helper, there are no rules against having a visa in process while waiting. Your problem will be the levy. I suggest you call IMD and tell them of your problem, they are very helpful. If the girl comes back, cancel the other one. It happens all the time, girls change their mind and want to finish a contract after all, or resign and then change their mind.

thanks hkwatcher.

Of course, I knew I can process another helper ... it wouldn't be different than me hiring a 3rd helper. However, what I meant was I didn't want to process another unless this one is definitely NOT coming back... it's not exactly fun to go through all the interviews, screening, finding an agent, the processing money.... headaches. It's not fun... so I rather not have to go through it all unless I have to !

Thanks!

good luck momoftwo! you are right - it is the processing money to the agency that is a real bummer.. when is her contract up anyway? does she say she wants to stay after that? guess what I am saying is - if her contact is up in say 2-3 months - maybe not really worth her coming back if she does not want to stay - so you can get on with getting someone else?
