our helper has used our 9mth baby to threaten us last Friday and we terminated her on Sat with immediate effect. Now we need to buy a return ticket for her, but she demanded ticket should be to Tuguegarao. But when she came to join us the ticket we bought was from Manila if i remember correctly. the Policy says ticket should be to place of origin. But do we need to buy Tuguegarao or Manila is good enough? frankly speaking given her attitude to me and our family, i am only willing to give her the minimum!

Your helper may have been at a training centre in Manila when you hired her. As an employer you have to only pay the fare into HK at beginning of contract. At THE END or on TERMINATION you only pay for a ONE WAY ticket to her home town. Check her documents if she does come from Tuguegarao-- then that is her home town. You are required to pay travel to HK airport, and if it is exchange flight to her home town. and bus fare the other end to her village, plus 100 hkd a day if it takes 2 days to get to village, and pay up to the date you dismissed her.

If she has done anything to harm your baby you must report this to The Immigration, or to the police if it is bad enough, put this on the reason for dismissal when you inform Imm, which should be within 7 days.

Make sure when you hand over any money, and air tickets it is witnessed and signed for, as they have a habit of taking you to labor dept tribunals sometimes, for what they consider unfair dismissal.

You are not obligated to FLY her to Tuguegarao. You can fly her to Manila and send her the remainder of the way by bus (which is probably the way she traveled if she was using her own money to get to Manila). I'm sure you can find approximate bus fares on Google, and provide her with that amount. Just be sure that on your termination notice you make it clear that you have paid her for her return travel.

As others have suggested, I would definitely first ask her for some proof that she is actually from the hometown of Tuguegarao City. Tuguegarao is located with Cagayan Province, which is in the northern most part of Luzon, so yes she could take a bus to get there from Manila, though I'm guessing it's probably a 9 -12 hour journey by bus.

I checked Philiipine Airlines, they have daily flights from Manila to Tuguegarao City, flight time is 1 hour. The cost of a one way ticket ranges between Pesos 2,200 to 3,700. Choosing the more expensive flight you are looking at about US$90 for the one way Manila to Tuguegarao City flight.

I am a soon to be father (expecting in mid-April), so I can understand what you may be feeling right now. Put the emotions aside, though, I think give her the equivalent of HK$800, for the flight and be done with her.

Your call, of course, and I would think the bus fare from Manila to Tuguegarao would be alot cheaper, probably at about US$50, one-way

It may be somewhat outdated, but in 2008 cost from Manila (leaving from Sampaloc, which is a district in the northern part of Manila) to Tuguegarao City, was pesos 950 and the journey by bus took 10 hours.

Add on taxi from Manila airport to Sampaloc bus terminal (say about 500 pesos) and account for adjustments in bus fares from 2008, you should be in for about US$50, to cover her travel from Manila back to her hometown in Tuguegarao City.

Easy to check. The helper's place of origin as listed on the employment contract is the one that counts.

I'm from Manila and I say US$50 is more than enough to get her to Tuguegarao from Manila by BUS including the taxi fare from the airport. No need for her to arrive there by plane and she doesn't deserve it anyway.
