We're leaving HK on short notice ... how do I manage helper ?

We are moving out of HK. We have only about 1 month in which we would like to transfer our helper to another employer.


She has been with us since Oct 2010. She has taken over managing our house & young child very competently.


I would recommend her as she is organized & neat.

She takes good care of the house & more importantly I feel very secure to leave my 2 year old child with her.


What are the necessary process to transfer her contract to another employer ?


Also can she work as part time helper ? What documentation is required for that to happen.

You need to write a letter saying the reason you are releasing with one month notice effective on ___date is because you are leaving HK for good on short notice. This gives her a chance to go to another employer without leaving HK and be processed throug the Phill which costs moneyb/c you need the use of an agency . All of the necesary documents can be found at Immigration along with the list of required support to process a new contract with a new employer. The new employer needs to provide all of that, and the girl can do the processing at the Phill consulate and IMD herself. You must provide her with a one way ticket home,salary for all of her working days plus any untaken annual leave when she leaves your home.

She cannot work as a part time helper it is not legal in HK.

SVG, if you want to find your helper, who you obviously respect, another good employer, then you need to start advertising that she will finish contract.

Also it would be better for you, if you have time to introduce her yourself to any prospective employer, go with your helper and talk to them, then people can really see she comes Highly recommended.

If she has another employer ready to take her on then she can start processing her papers before she might leave to go to her home country in between contracts, as processing can take 6-7 weeks, and she is not allowed legally to go to the next employer until contracts and visa's are complete. The next employer is due for the airfare charges back into Hk, and all the processing for the new contract with them.If for some reason she does not want to go home after you have made final payments, then she has to have permission from Imm to stay, and once she leaves your employ you are not responsible for where she stays or any food costs, she then has to be self sufficient until start of a new contract.

My helper , Jane , has found a new employer as of today :-)


We have signed the termination letter & sent relevant documents to Immigration as well.
