Hiring DH coming from Phillipines

ORIGINAL POST

We are thinking of hiring a helper who used to work in HK before but left HK once, and now trying to find work again and she's currently on the tourist visa.

The helper we hired before (she changed the employer from the previous one to us) did all the paperwork and process by herself - filling out the documents and going to the consulate etc., but this one we are trying to hire at the moment says she must leave it all to the agent as she is coming newly from Phillipines (although she used to work here before). She also says the fee is on us - approx. HKD 3,300.

Is this true - if so, which agent gets things done efficiently and quickly?

Thanks for your help,

the most popular agent i know so far among the phils is emry's located in wanchai. we tried to hire a helper directly from phils and we used emry's. but she ended up failing her medical check up. the phils like emry's because they charges the helper nothing and the employer 3300 appro. i must say we are not very happy with emry's service but they seem to be the popular one. let me know if you want their number. good luck.

I've had a really bad experience with Emry's as well - I would suggest you definitely find another agent. There are loads, someone said that Technic is good.

If you look over previous posts, I wrote before about what Emry's have done with my helper's application. Apart from the assistant being unbelievably rude to me over the phone, they messed everything up so that my helper will now be coming 3 MONTHS late! Leaving me with 2 children aged under 3 to look after...

My advice (for what it's worth) - Don't go there!

I don't understand why you need to use an agent? I hired DH from Phillipines last October and did all the paperwork myself. I admit it was a bit tedious but not worth paying 3k away!

Yes, I really wish I didn't have to use an agent. But it seems there's a rule (I don't even know whose rule this is!) that helpers coming to work in HK for the first time must have their application processed by an agency.

forgot to tell you. when we were applying for our DH freshly from phils. we made an agreement that we will split the costs 50/50. i think some employers do that. you may want to consider this to save costs.

This message is for Cathy13 or anyone else who can help! I am a first time user of a DH and want to hire one direclty from the Phils myself (without an agency) but am having a tough time finding out all the info I need e.g contract, medical, who pays plane tickets etc, sponsoring visa etc. I already checked out the HK immigration website but that is not user friendly. Can someone please contact me at audres@hotmail.com ?? Thank you.

Ditto as per Audres...

1. can we do the paperwork ourselves if bringing a first timer to Hong Kong.

2.Is it standard that the employer bears all the costs or are they split...say 50/50 as above. If split can it be a legitimate deduction from the maids salary

3. By way of comparison, how much does an agency charge the employer to do paperwork to transfer a maid already in Hong Kong - is there also any cost to the maid?

Thank you!

Its apparently a rule that a first timer in HK fm Phils need to go thru an agency.( wonder who created it ).last month i applied for a DH fm Phils and wanted to do it directly but got to know fm various sources that it has to go thru an agency.the agency ( Emry's) have told me that its gonna take 4 weeks to get her here .
