Hi, I have a few months more to go on my helper's contract.
However, I am considering sending my daughter to full day kindie starting from next month.
I cannot afford paying for both - the helper and full day kindie.
I am just wondering whether or not she can still continue to stay and look for a new employer or will she be sent back home to the Phillipines?
The reason I will give to immigration is that we won't need her seeing my daughter will go to full day kindie.

You need to tell IMD the last day of her employment with you. Either it will be one month's notice. or one month's salary instead of one month. If you want to do her a favor, give her a good release letter saying the reason you let her go so the new er. knows it wasn't her fault she was released. By law, she has 2 weeks to find another er. after the last day she is with you before she has to leave HK, if she can find a new er. by that time it will only be a matter of 8 weeks to get the new contract processed. If you REALLY want to do her a favor, ask around with your friends to see if any of them want a new helper, as you can reccommend her to them.

hkwatcher, thank you. I will definitely make sure that she's not disadvantaged in anyways with my decision to save and put my daughter through a full day school.
This decision may not eventuate anyway... I've just been told by her school that full day spaces are full and I'm 3rd on the waiting list.

state in your reason that you're financially incapable of sending ur kid and pay her the same time (financial difficulty). that way, she dont need to go home to the philippines when she will find another employers.
your reason of "not needing her to send your kid to her school" will force her an exit before working for er new employer....

But to say that we are "financial incapable" would mean that we'll have difficulty hiring another helper in future should we need to, right?
So here's my predicament. I don't want her to be sent back to the Phillipines because of my choice to send my daughter to full time school instead of having a live in helper. However, I don't want to have a bad record either with immigration IF ever I need another helper.
I am unable to get a space at my daughter's school for full day at present so maybe by the time we get one, she would have finished her contract.

I'm glad your problem is solved due to circumstances that worked out for you & your helper. Finishing a contract is definitely an advantage for all FDH to find herself the next job unless her employer got a very valid reason like leaving HK or in financial difficulty. Lying to help someone, no matter how good the intention will always come back to you. Very wise of you to have reason out the consequence.
Your helper will appreciate your concern.
