Hello,

We are French and we're relocating to the States over the summer.

We would like to take our DH with us (she's Philippina).

Does anyone has such an experience ?

Is it a long/difficult process ?

Any feedback would be very appreciated. Thank you !

That's great news, then she can even get her US residency as well as human rights, if she so desired after the required amount of time, working as an ex-pat in the states.

There should be more people like you in Hong Kong.

Hope it workes out.

as far as I know, many a expats have tried... and failed... If you were going to Canada, then its different. but going to the US with a domestic helper is nearly impossible. The US will not grant a work visa for your helper.

You can just hire cleaners when you're in the US.. depending on where you're at, the hispanic/mexican race seems to fulfill this role. <--- that sounds a bit racist, but i mean it in the intentions of the philipino population seem to be the dominate race that fulfills the DH role here in HK.

and yes, when i lived in the US, i had a cleaner come by 2 times a week and she was Mexican, and no i wasnt taking advantage of her because with her and her husband's salary combined they lived quite comfortably in a new house in the lower middle class bracket. :p

My Family is relocating to the Cebu for a year and we too would like to take our helpers with us. I know we can find help there easily but we have to kids under 2 and another on the way so stability in there care givers is very important...Plus we'd like to have them continue with us when we return the HK.

Is this even possible?

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks!!!
