My current employer(madam),is really a horrible person. i starts working from 5:30 am to 1:30 am. my first day with them she gave a very long list of thing to be done, and i'll have to do that everyday, if she sees me that i've done everything, she ask me then to start making lunch after lunch, she's going to inspect everything she asked me to do in that morning she inspect them one by one then make a comment that, they're still dirty, she yells at me sometimes she point my head saying that i am so so stupid! don't know how to clean their house etc.then she ask me to do it again until 4:30 pm then after i have to cook their dinner then clean the whole kitchen after they have their dinner, sometimes i finished cleaning the kitchen about 2 am and i can't just go to after that, i need to wait for her signal to ask me to take a rest..really really exhausted, my employer is really really horrible person.

She keeps saying that i am stupid,i think that my english is far better than her.

I gave her my one month noticed yesterday and she said that i can't leave because we have 2 yeas contract, she said that if i am going to break my contract i have to pay her.

She can't understand what is "one month notice".

My agency can't help me either because theyre friends.

What should i do if she won't let me go? can i just leave without her permission after one month? can she go to the police and report me if i'll do that?

Contact the labour department and advise your employer will not accept your resignation.

Write a letter giving your notice (I gather you will work the month) to the employer and send a copy to immigration - perhaps you might need to give this letter to your employer in their place of work with a witness.

Do check with the labour department first, they may have a way to deal with this. Good luck.

You could also post or fax your resignation for proof. But I hardly think that is necessary. The law requires you give written notice, it does not demand you get a receipt for your notice. Keep a copy for your record and date the notice, that should be sufficient. Generally the labour law will cover the employee over the employer in this sort of matter. Also You do not owe her 2 years. The contract is for a term of two years with a one month break clause so at most you owe a months work or payment in lieu of work. If she tries to withhold your final pay the Labour department will act swiftly to help you recover anything owed to you.

if the situation is as you say..then just give amonth notice..and work as much as you can..your employer is cruel...no one should work so long hours....maybe once in a blue moon..or it is your own business...she is obviously not the kind of person you are working for,.......so i guess talk to the consulate....like beancurd said...and if she really try to act weird during hte month...all she can do is terminate you...that is the worst thing she can do....so just nod your head...and do what yu like...she does not deserve your service

Believe me if a helper can have the time and resource to post on this site, she is normally very well informed...

Though I believe such kind of employers does exist and I feel for all the FDH working for them I still have doubts that the author of the post is someone taking us for a ride. Madam is always at her back from 5:30am to 1:30am, to find time to post a thread here looks impossible.

coquinne,

It is not impossible. There are public libraries all over HK, and there are lots of computers in each library that anybody can use. And every FDH is entitled to one day off a week.
