Help! My domestic helper is constantly "forgetting" to do her job properly. We have given her many instructions, including a clear written manual and verbal discussions about priorities and how to do things our way. She cannot seem to understand that her way is not acceptable. We are nearing the end of our rope. This is our 3rd helper in 3 years, and although she is the best of the bunch so far, she is still a marginal performer. Does anyone out there have a GREAT helper and if so, where did you find her, how much do you pay, what kind of training did you give and WHERE can I find one like her....
Many thanks for your help!

Our family has been in HK for 12 years now, and we still have our original helper from when we first got here. That is not to say though that she is perfect. Sorry to pop your bubble but I really believe there is no perfect domestic helper out there, just as there is no perfect employer. Mine is old, cantankerous and really slow. Having said that, she does have her redeeming qualities and over the years we have achieved a comfort zone between us. I put up with a lot, but maybe if you will speak with her personally she will say she does the same with me. My advice is to just keep looking and trying them out, and not to expect greatness. Decide what matters most to you, what you can live with and what is non negotiable, and go from there.
I hired mine directly from the Philippines from a recommendation, pay her $5,500. She is far from great, but her faults I can live with. What matters most to me is her integrity and honesty. Good luck.

What sort of things are her responsibility and what sort of things does she underperform on?
