Afraid to take airplane home

My helper is supposed to take her annual leave next week. Bought her the ticket - also domestic connecting flight to her province. She just told me that she is afraid to go back to Manila because she heard that a whole plane of people were detained for 7 days when they found a passenger ill and she doesn't want her holiday to end up like that.

Any thoughts/comments? - Should I tell her it's OK.

Can you change her tickets on such short notice? Will there be a penalty? This 'flu' may not go away so soon even if you allow her to postpone her holidays so it's quite an infinite time span. These are some of the considerations you have to look into.

Thanks ladies for your replies. I just got off the phone talking to my agent about cancelling the ticket. She said she will let me know the answer on Monday.

cara, my helper did want to postpone her trip and I don't mind as I would be worrying about her too. BTW, what do you mean "1) tell her to suck it up"?

homely, did cross my mind about the indefinite time span - hope this H1N1 goes away soon.

cara, thanks for the explanation.

I'll see what the agent has to say tomorrow and let my helper decides. Her visa expires in November so there's no rush, only her family will be disappointed as she bought so many gifts for them.

Well, the agent confirmed that there will be a penalty of HK$920 inclusive of administration fee if we cancell the flight or if we want to postpone, it will cause us US$75. I am willing to split the charges with her if she finds it uncomfortable in taking the plane and told her so, even paying the full US$75. Setting the money aside, we discuss the situation that there is no guarantee that this H1N1 will ease in the next few months and it may get worse - who knows? The agent said that all countries are taking great measures in preventing the spreading of this H1N1 so travelling now or later will be the same depending on one's fate - the encountering of a CARRIER of H1N1 on board. Guess she's right.

Conclusion: My helper decides that she will go back.
