Some people do, most don't. We brought our helper a portable cd/radio player as a christmas present the 1st year she was with us.

I think if most people don't, we should not, otherwise it just broken the "game rule". I know most helper have no tv and never watch tv. After finished their work, they just go back to their rooms.

I have worked as a domestic helper in Hong kong for 16 years and been very lucky to have had generous, big hearted Western expat employers. My employers provided me with anything they wanted to provide or give me not because they should. Just be who you are and follow your heart. Just treat your helper as you would like to be treated if you were a helper.

Ausmob5- I am new at all this as well and I have decided to provide my helper with a tv. The cable is already there so I would like my privacy at night and I dont see a problem with it. I am also going to let her know that the tv is there to watch when all the household chores have been done. I am going to go through all the requirements and guidelines right from the start so no-one gets confused.

We provided our helper with a tv and dvd player and she uses our DVD's/VCD's in the evening. She also has all my magazines once I've finished with them, can read our books etc. Most of our friends also provide their helpers with this as standard - can't think of anything more boring myself than being stuck in a pokey room at night with nothing to watch or read.
