We have terminated our Domestic Helper. In her termination letter we indicated the reason is that we are moving to a much smaller home and no longer require her assistance. In reality we probably would have let her go as it wasn't a good fit with our family. The move just seemed like a natural segue. She has found a new employer and the agency is now asking us to change our reason for termination to indicate that it is due to financial reasons. I realize that this will speed up her processing time; however, I am a little concerned that this amendment may just end up causing me trouble later. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would think that once these release papers have been submitted to IMM. as they should be within the first 7 days of termination you cannot change the reason you have put on the form.
Also if you wanted another helper in the future, wouldn't they question it if you put'financial reasons' as the release for this one? She probably wants you to change it so that she can stay longer in HK, thats all!, by rights she should go home in between contracts, I cannot see it speeding her processing any more than the usuall 4-6 wks.

I think you are right Susie. Just wondering of anyone has any other incite or can confirm potential consequences to me. As a point of clarification, her last day is tomorrow. I have not submitted my termination letter, but I submitted an early intent to terminate to immigration (trying to cover my bases when I gave her notice). She brought me an immigration form to fill out stating reason (necessary in order to process new application). She went to immigration today respecting her new contract and I got a call sometime after requesting that I change the reason. I want to be accommodating but, I've just got a bad feeling about this.

Sorry I disagree--
Unless you turn around and want to hire a new heler immediately. Using a financial reason as termination will not affect your future ability to hire again.
All you have to do is comply with the law regarding the minimum wage necessary to hire whcih is right now at $15000 per month.
The most that Immigration would require of you is a letter wtating why you are now able to hire again as opposed to why you needed to relese due to financial reason previously. The only downside to stating the reason as financial is if you are planning on re hirung again quite soon.

You don't need to change it specifically for financial reason, however HKwatcher is right. We just don't know what defines "rehiring sooner or later". If you want to help your former helper be able to process her new contract here, perhaps a little rephrasing to your release letter would help. Stating that since you moved to a smaller home and no longer require her assistance, you do not object to her finding a new employer and would welcome any contact regarding her performance.
Base from my opinion, in cases like this, how the helper answers when being interviewed is the determining factor.
