Hi
I'm relocating to Hong Kong and would like to bring my helper who has worked for us for four years. My office says she has to go back to Indonesia and sign up with a maid agency before joining us in Hong Kong. This seems crazy (and expensive). Does anyone have any idea how to short-cut this process? I need her with me here from Day #1 because I have to work!
Thanks a lot.

I'll assume that she is, in fact, Indonesian. All Indonesian helper contracts must go through agencies approved by their consulate. The helper will also have to go back to Indonesia until she has her visa. No way around it.
Having said that, you'd be in the same situation for a Filipina helper that hadn't been in HK until now.

Perhaps you would be better getting a temporary Full Time helper from an agency while your own helper gets her HK visa.

Thanks axptguy38 - when you say she has to go back to Indonesian until she has her visa, do you think she could go to Indonesia to apply for the visa, then come back to KL or HK until it's approved? Is there any ban on someone coming to HK on a tourist visa while their work permit is being approved?
Thanks!

There is not. However it is illegal to work on a tourist visa so it's a bit of a moot point.
