We employ two domestic helpers who are sisters. One likes to go out in the evening to get some time away from her sister and see her friends; sometimes she will stay the night with friends but she is always back in time to start work in the morning. The other hardly ever goes out and wants us to put a curfew on her sister since she says it is illegal for her sister to stay elsewhere (in a boarding house), she is worried about her sister getting involved with gambling and also thinks her sister gets to tired to work properly. US - we are happy as long as both helpers appear for work in the morning and do a good job.
Questions:
- How many people impose weekday curfews on their domestic helpers?
- Anyone got any advise as to how to mediate the situation?

Do you actually know who she is staying with?
Is it a guy?
Good for the older sister showing concern

Its illegal for helpers to live out (unless they have a perm id) but its not illegal to stay over at a friends sometimes. My helper does it, but I wouldn't be happy if he was staying out several night a week.

Thanks. Having spoken to them both individually we have got the social sister to agree not to stay at the bording house any more (she had apparently hired a bed) and to be home by a reasonable hour so that she isn't disturbing her sister's sleep too much. In return we've said we are happy for her to stay out for when it is her day off the next day but that she mustn't be leaving belonings elsewhere in case it might be construed she is living there.
Now, we just have to get the two of them talking again...
