We've had our helper for three years now and specified in our rules that she was not to recieve any personal phone calls on our home landline. She has three mobile phones of her own.
Recently, over the past few months she has been getting phone calls on our landline regularly, despite several warnings for her friends not to call our home. She was not supposed to give out our number in the first place.
What would you do to stop them from calling our personal landline?
Please support our advertisers:
Your helper needs to tell them to stop phoning, and ram it home to her that you do not want her to ever give out your number to anyone unless specifically asked to do so by you.
Could it be that you should give her a formal first warning? Put it in writing and have her countersign.
If it happens again, give her another warning. Tell her if it doesn't stop then she will be required to pay for a new line connection fee. Although you should not have to change your number though just because she cannot follow house rules.

Some will no doubt say this is a misunderstanding or you are mean etc etc. Rubbish, no matter her nationality it would be considered wrong to use the employers phone esepcially if told not to. Tell her the calls must stop and get her to sign a piece of paper accepting this. When you ask her to sign have a witness present (non family) and if she refuses have them write on the letter that she refused. Alternatively send registered letter to her with of course a record kept of the letter and that it was recieved.

Just to share my experience I too suffered with these nuisance calls from my helper's 'friends' despite explaining to her our family phone is for our use only, turns out they weren't friends at all rather loan companies which she had taken out financing with using our home phone number and other personal details!!!!!!! Beware, it could be indicative of further problems!!!

why does she need three mobile phones ?
unless she is up to something dodgy.
what profession requires three mobile phones?

Dadda.... you could be right..... but I hope not.
I've questioned her and she said that she doesn't know them. She mentioned that other Fillipinas have asked to borrow money from her and she has refused saying she didn't have any. She said that they're ringing to get her into trouble because they know that we wouldn't like her getting personal phone calls on our home phone.
Each time they've called, I've asked how they got the number .... they said from our DH saying they're her friends. DH says she doesn't know them.
I have no idea why she needs three mobiles. She said one is for international calls from the Philippines and for roaming???
I've contacted PCCW to block callers (at an extra cost per month) and our family will be the only ones with the password. Our DH seemed pleased about that.
I don't know how to approach her if she's in a lot of debt.
Dadda could be right.

Dadda was absolutely right about borrowing money.
I apporached her on several occassions and she denied the fact that she did. Last night we got another phone call and the man on the other end was very aggressive and repeatedly asking for her. I put the phone on speaker phone so that she could hear it. After half an hour of questioning the helper, she admitted that she borrowed $18000 from a loan company and she hasn't made any repayments, because she borrowed it for her friend who has now disappeared.
She has handed in her resignation letter and given a month's notice as she says she doesn't want to put us through anymore trouble.
I feel sorry for her, but at the same time she doesn't want to help herself and pay it back.

xox, exactly the same story with us too three mobile phones debts etc. Our Helper has borrowed tons of money which was also for a friend who has now disappeared & now does not want to pay back has given her resignation going back home so that we are not put through anymore trouble I did advise her many a times that just pay back all your loans & keep your job but she had made up her mind that she was leaving . This is crazy! Word of advice dont feel sorry this is all a scam they send all this money back home so its not as though they have no money & I have learnt that there is no friend involved dont be surprised if you get many more phone calls regarding her debts.

dibidoo,
That's terrible..... I hope there are no more lies.
My biggest problem right now is getting someone responsible and honest to look after our baby while we away at work.
What's the best way to find someone trustworthy?

I am quite sure that there will be more stories popping up it never ends with just one! Good luck with your search I truly hope you can find someone trustworthy I wish I could give you an answer to finding someone trustworthy speacially with a little baby. FYI ours has borrowed close to $ 50,000 it started with a smaller amount.

she has given me her 1 month notice will be leaving shortly .
I agree with dadda the phone calls do not end we have sent the loan companies copy of her termination letter inspite of that there is no respite from their calls to us & one of the loan company guy ( who i assume is triad like debt collection agency) is very very rude & abusive but there is nothing we can do. They came to our house as well to personally deliver a letter scary huh.
Our helper has not only borrowed money from loan companies but from other individuals also & they keep calling as well! This whole situation makes my blood boil GRRRRRRRRRRR.

Dadda I agree with you a hundred percent !

My helper said she had borrowed the money for a 'friend' and it was the only loan she had ever had blah blah blah, it was only after we fired he and then received calls from the other many and various agencies she had borrowed money IN HER OWN NAME that it became very clear there was no such 'friend' just another bloody lie. Agree with dadda 110% I have never heard from any of my friends who have had to fire helpers for loan issues that the helper fessed up and said 'yeah sorry I needed the money and took out a loan' they have ALWAYS used the 'friend' Bull.
