Helper wants to go to Malaysia not home

Our helper has been with us 2 months. We are happy with her. As she came straight from her old employer to us she has to leave HK before August. I asked her when she would like to go for holiday to Philippines but she she would like to go to Kuala Lumpor to stay with her aunt who she says is working there. This seems to me a slightly unusual request. Has anyone had this experience before?

As far as I know the only important thing is for her to leave HK. I am not an expert but so far as I know there is no other legal requirement.

Where she wants to go is her business. It's like you taking a vacation at your parent's house or in Bali. I don't see anything unusual about it.

nothing strange except i suspect it is going to cost you a whole lot more to send her to Malaysia than to Phil.

It shouldn't cost them at all unless they wish to pay for it as the helpers previous employer will of had to provide a ticket or money for the helpers return travel to her home. As employees we only need to provide a ticket to bring the helper to HK and at the end of contract anything else is out of choice and not a requirement. I personally would be happy to pay but not after two months of employment.

i have done it before.. as my mom works in cambodia. where we go for our "visa run' isnt important as long as we leave hk before one year with the new employers.

what we did was, both my bosses the old and new gave me the cash equivalent of the ticket fare to my home town in php. i paid for the difference on the fare. easy as.

it isnt unusual as many dhs have relatives in other countries.

as for the visa php passport holders usually dont need a visa prior to enrty in asian countries except of course china and n.korea and several others.
