Part time maids- legal or not ?

We are looking for a part-time helper, and I called a couple of them listed on this site.

These Dh's said that they were already employed and have a friend!

These friends then contacted me. I am still in the process of talking to them about the wages etc.

Is it legal to employ these part-time DH"s?

Should I ask for any referrals?

These DH's have said that they are here legally , but shold I ask them to validate that or should I just let it be.

Will I be at risk if I employ some one who is not here on a legal DH visa( or its equivalent?)

what are the reasonable wages for a part time help.Say 2 hours every alternate day, was cleaning and cooking?

I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I would appreciate any help so that I know where I stand legally .

It is illegal not unless theyare holding a dependant visa or PR.

e.g. I believe a Philippino woman married to a HK permanent resident would be allowed to work part time without a work visa.

TC, you are right that $50 is the market rate for local legal part time work but some filipino helpers (illegal or legal is another issue) do get $60 per hour because people prefer to employ them. Why? It is because they work faster and more professional in managing a household than locals.
