My maid doesn't like my dog!

If you love your dog, then I think you have no choice but to terminate this helper. It's an easy answer. Just give her payment in lieu of notice nad chalk it up to experience. I am sure there are MANY helpers already in Hong Kong who love pets and would love a job that is as easy as yours sounds.

I completely feel for you (I hired a full-time maid for pretty much the same reason as you) but I have to say that you are partly at fault for this. Did you meet the mom before hiring her? When I interviewed potential maids, I always watched how they interacted with my dog. It wasn't enough that they could tolerate her, they have to like her. For a dog lover, it's sometimes hard for us to imagine people who don't like dogs, but I keep on reminding myself that most people who don't own dogs wouldn't know anything about how to take care of one. People's ideas of dogs come from TV shows and movies where they never show how many times you have to walk them and how they really demand a lot of attention. Maybe your maid just didn't expect it and was overwhelmed.


My suggestion is to get rid of her as fast as you can, I would if my maid hates my dog. But next time, make sure you pick someone who really likes dogs.

i know people will say i'm cynical but it sounds as though this lady wants her contract to be terminated. all the mishaps with the laundry and stuff and the complaining just seem to indicate it. best for you to finish now, and try to finish on good terms. you can find someone else. just say to her that it's not working for either of you. she can't argue with that! she obviously dislikes the job.

3. Get rid of this one and find one with previous dog experience. Make sure in the interview you SEE them play with your dog. Dog Love/Like can not be faked.

if dogs are below people why can humans be so cruel to dogs, like they are in some places in China, treating them like 'meat' when actually they aren't herd animals, and have historically been companion animals to people. They may not be as smart as humans but they give unconditional love. Some humans are inferior in my view - the ones who are deliberately INHUMANE to animals. These humans are infac very inferior to many dogs. Dogs have been known to save people's lives!!
