Hi, I am just about to hire a helper which has been recomended to me by a friend of a collegue. She has really great references and has been working in HK for 10 years. I do know the min salary to pay them but I have a few more questions to those who already have helpers.
1) What hours does your helper do?
2) Is evening babysitting included or do you need to pay them extra.
3) Do you give your helper holidays when you are away?
4) How many weeks holiday do they get? Do you pay them for this?
I am going to contact immigration tomorrow regarding this, but I just wanted to see what everyone else was doing.
Thanks

Helpers generally work a full day from morning to night and babysitting would be included in normal domestic help. There are no set hours in the agreement or even under labour law, only that they must have 1 rest day in every 7. Usually we have our helper work during our Holiday as we have pets to care for, but many people have their helper take their annual leave at the same time. It is really up to the employer. A helper gets 7 days annual leave for every year of work in the first 2 years. They are also entitled to the 12 Statutory Holidays. The best guide to all of this can be found at the labour department http://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/plan/iwFDH.htm
