I would like to employ an Indonesian helper who has resigned before her contract was completed. I have contacted the Indonesian Embassy & then various employment agencies and am now completely confused as to what I need to do to employ her. If anyone has experience of employing an Indonesian helper & the procedures involved, I would be grateful to hear from you.

The nationality won't affect the process you'll have to follow. She'll have to go back to her home country and apply for her visa there. It usually takes about 6-8 weeks, sometimes even longer...
Good luck !

It seems that it is not so simple. The indonesian government has their own strict procedure that has to be followed as well as the relatively simple HK procedure. I would really appreciate talking to someone who has experience in hiring an Indonesian DH in HK to find out what fees, medicals, training was required. Thanks

hi half, I think you better consult those agencies that are expert for indonesians maid visas....bec I asked one time about the indonesians and they mentioned to me that usually indonesians maid have to go under agencies, especially when she need to go back to her home. I also planning to employ an indonesian maid when I give birth. Hope you will find what you looking for.Good luck!

I've only ever hired two helpers and they're both Indonesians. So I don't know how different it is to hiring helpers of other nationalities. We went through an agency in Jordan that specialises in Indonesian DH. They are amazingly good and very professional. We went to their office and they gave us files of prospective helpers to look at. We narrow it down to a few and we conducted interviews. True they have to go back to Indonesia while the visa is arranged. We only needed to sign papers and pay for things like handling fees and the govt levy. The agents did all the paperwork and running around. It took a few weeks but we were OK waiting anyway. Once the helper arrived back in HK, she first had to get a medical check up, all arranged by the agency as well. When all is OK, all we had to do was pick her up and take her home.
A few tips - be specific abt what you are looking for in a helper. If it's to take care of a small baby, then you must be sure she has the experience. There's a lot of "new" recruits coming to HK who are very young and have no or little working experience. Be aware that your helper will have to pay the agency a fee, in the case of my maids, which is abt 7 months of their salary. Basically, they will be left with only a few hundred of spending money.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give out the name and contact for the agency I use but if you are interested pls let me know.

Yes I agreed with jasmine. When you employ an Indonesian maid, you need to go thru an agency, although that means you have to pay for the agency fee. Hong Kong Immigration side is the same but it is the Indoensian Govt that controls everything. So YES you have to go thru an agent. My helper is Indonesian and I found her info. thru the internet. But yet I had to go thru the agency she belongs to do all the procedures. As the agency did all the work for us, so it was relatively simple. Agency fees vary so you better check and ask hers. I had filipino, sri lankan maids before. I found my current Indonesian helper has a quieter, more reserved and more obedient sort of personality than the other two. Unless yours has already got a lot of exposure to the western culture, I would say it wl take u quite some time to train her how to set your table, how to cook things in a western way etc. Good luck.
