Hiring A Helper Who Is Terminating Her Current Contract

Could someone pls share with me their knowledge or experience on hiring a helper who is terminating her present contract?

I've been told by an agency that the process will take about 2 months (beginning from the date of application submission) which during that time the helper has to return to the Philippines to wait for her visa.

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before and if there is any way to hasten the process. The reason is because I have a very young child and am halfway through my second pregnancy and we will also be moving into our new home soon.

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

Tons of people have gone through this process. If you want to quicken the process, you can only write lots of letters to the immigration, and keep going to the immigration and make sure they hurry your file.


Three of my friends did it in the last 6 months, their terminated helpers came back in 4 weeks.


Agency has to do the papers and the agency will help you write letters too (if it's a good agency)

In my experience i would not hire a helper who is terminated. I have just done it and it took three months for her to come back to HK due to paperwork agencys etc.

I also know many people who have had the same experience.

Of course if she is the perfect helper then maybe it's worth the wait.

Abiagil, did u hire a helper who was terminated by her employer or the other way around? 3months is a very long time.

Of course we all want helpers who have completed contracts... because of the simpler paper work, and good track record.... completing contracts mean they are good and loyal and responsible helpers.... however, completed contracts helpers have a lot of choices, and get to negotiate higher salaries and higher expectations, and depending on the conditions in your household, many completed contracts helpers will choose NOT to sign with you if they foresee too much work, too little salary, the employer is easy to terminate helpers.... etc.
