Helper pregnant before visa approval

We found a helper here around 6 weeks ago. The helper worked in hk before but was on visiting visa for the interview with us and other employers.

We signed contract and hand it over to an agent for processing as direct hire from Phil. She went back Phil while waiting for the visa.

During this six weeks, I tried to contact her by email, regular mail and cell phone but no replies.

Today, we got her reply via SMS saying she is pregnant and can not come to work for us. She asked us to cancel the visa application.

She knows we are in very urgent needs of her service as we got a baby girl and our previous helper finished contract two weeks ago.

Any ideas in this situation as visa should be ready around this week or next while she claiming she is pregnant in Phil?

What do you want to happen?

These kind of things happen you know. It's tough, given your situation, but you need to move on. Go and find another helper, or as some in these fora say, take care of your own baby...

Well, take it up with the agency- they are paid to take care of stuff like this, and they have probably dealt with hundreds of similar situations.

jgl's suggestion is good. Agencies can help (but they'll help themselves first).

Since the helper didn't come, the fdh contract hasn't started yet even if the visa was already issued. (Usually the agency receives the printed visa from immigration, so the helper won't lay her hands on it). So if you still decide to hire a helper, you're back to square one, just do the same things you did before.

Some of the money you paid the agency should be forwarded to the next person you find. My friend had a similar situation, just didn't come back after returning to the Phils, and the agent was nice enough to not charge the full processing amount when they found another helper.
