As Hong Kong recovers from its worst COVID-19 wave to date, the SAR continues to ramp up its vaccination mandates and requirements. The latest booster vaccine mandate, which came into effect on May 31st, 2022, requires Hong Kongers to have three vaccine doses to enter public premises such as restaurants, gyms, cinemas, and more. Now that we’re in the next phase of the vaccine pass scheme, you’re probably wondering where to get your third vaccine dose in Hong Kong if you haven’t already. Can you book an appointment for the booster shot in Hong Kong?
Eligible residents can simply register online and head to any HK vaccine community center to receive the booster dose. While the booster vaccine has been available since November 11th, 2021 for certain patients, wider groups have been eligible since January 2022. Since February 2022, the Hong Kong government has reduced the vaccine dosage timeline, enabling adults to receive the third dose three months after the second.
Who is eligible for the third dose vaccine in HK?
If you’re over 18 years old and had your second vaccine dose three months ago, then you can receive the third dose. Note that immunocompromised patients (i.e. individuals with chronic diseases like cancer) can get the third dose four weeks to three months following the second dose. Those over 60 years of age are also now eligible to get the fourth dose. However, if you’ve recovered from COVID-19 then you don’t have to get the third dose at present.
Can non-residents get a booster vaccine in Hong Kong?
Non-Hong Kong residents who have had at least one dose in Hong Kong and can provide valid travel and vaccine documents can get a third dose. But before booking your booster vaccine in Hong Kong, it’s important to note that the online registration system doesn’t currently recognize foreign vaccination records. If you’ve been vaccinated abroad, bring your relevant ID and documents to any Hong Kong vaccination center to receive the third dose.
How much does a booster vaccine jab cost?
The booster vaccine is free of charge in Hong Kong throughout all vaccination centers. Even though you don’t have to make a claim for the booster jab, it’s good to know that your insurance policy covers vaccines if needed.
