3 month accommodation for internship, advice?

I got an offer for an internship from end of Nov to end of Feb and I am looking for places to stay during the internship.

I've looked around and have struggled to find stuff within my budget of HK$8,000 on HK Island, for a place and I was wondering does anyone here have any recommendations of places I can look into that is suitable?

Anyone pointing me in the right direction would be awesome and greatly appreciated!

HK$8000 for an apartment on HK Island is somewhat tight. Where will your internship be (what part of HK Island)?

Since you will be in HK for only 3 months, you should be looking for fully furnished places. Bear in mind most places, even if they say fully furnished, will not come with things like bedding (you will need pillows, quilts etc for the winter), cutlery, cooking utensils etc. So you will need to factor in costs for these items.

If you rent through agents, you will need to pay half a month's rent as commission regardless of the term of tenancy. So it might be better to rent direct with owners.

Browse the classifieds section of Asiaxpat and other expat sites. If looking at craigslist be careful of scams - one good rule of thumb is if there are no contact details and if you see things like "garage included" or fireplaces in the photos, the ad is likely to be a scam.

You will need internet services, so it would be good if you could get internet included. Phone tethering works as wifi but I am not aware of any local unlimited data plans that are only for 3 months.

I think it might be more realistic to go for a budget of around 10,000 hk dollars (to include all furniture, plus appliances and cooking utensils etc, and preferably also including internet in the apartment).

Good luck!

Hello Boofit,

Thanks for the response, appreciate it and I definitely agree with a lot of what you have said. I will be working in CWB most of the time.

I know with my budget I will struggle but I am slowly leaning towards flatshares, and have seen some interesting places within my budget.
