I've been in HK for 20 years and this is the first major ferry accident that I am aware of... I don't think it makes sense to not live in DB due to concerns over ferry accidents.

I have been in HK 35 years and this is the first time we have had such an incident. I doubt whether it is grounds legally to cancel your signed agreement with your Landlord. If you contact the Government Offices, Queensway, they have solicitors you may contact who can give you their thoughts on the matter. Regards

Agree with other posters, first incident of this kind albeit very tragic that I have come across in HK. Is this incident enough reason to cancel your tenancy and get back your deposit, that is up to you. Yes, you can cancel your tenancy agreement, however, you have no legal grounds to do so. If you cancel you will loose your deposit and you will be liable for the first years rent and in most tenancy agreements two months notice so check your agreement but generally I think you will be liable for 14 months rent and the loss of your deposit.
