Hi zonked.

Everyone will have a different recommendation for a tailor so I would do a search on "Shenzhen" or "tailor" on the practical section of this site or have a look around at the tailors and the clothes that they have already made and hanging in their shops. Tailors are on the 5th floor. I think there are curtain tailors on the 4th floor too and they have the fabric in their stores.

In terms of fabric for clothes - there is a huge fabric market on the 5th floor. This has silk and linen as well as heaps of other types of fabrics. The tailors often go with you to the fabric market so that they can advise you on the suitability of the fabric for the clothing you are copying. This is good if you do not sew.

Have fun

Hello Zonked, I was up there yesterday and going again Friday. We are having our theatre costumes made and tried 2 different tailors for quality. We chose Tailor Kathleen Shop 51, 5/F she is in one of the smaller shops. She has been extremely helpful. The other tailor "Stephanie" shop 5060A. would not recommend.

On the whole I have been happy with what I have had made in Shenzhen but you do need to check it and be prepared to take it back if it is not right

It is the Lo Wu Commercial Centre - the main shopping centre just over the border into Shenzhen

Thanks everyone!

Whatever the results, want to atleast give it a try. Heard so so so much about it but never tried it, though have been here almost 9 years. Will try with a couple of dresses, with not so expensive material bought from there, rather than take my expensive fabric the first time.

Hi Zonked, I waited nearly 11 years before i tried it and am still kicking myself. I have tried a few tailors in Shenzhen and have had the best results for things I have copied (as in give her a dress and get her to make an exact copy). I use a woman called Adah in shop 5138A (5th floor) in Lo Wu. Most of the stuff she has made me has been a winner (although a friend of mine hasn't been as happy with her as me). I also got her to make some summer dresses based on a pic in a catalogue and they are fantastic and she is also very good at wrap dresses. It's great fun and choosing the fabric is the best bit. her tel is 00186 13798320983. PS her english is v good

Thanks Scissors for the reccomendation.

I went to Judy this time and ordered four pieces. Let me see the results. I can try your tailoress for a coat/jacket next time.

Maybe we can go together sometime?? I've to go to pick up my stuff coming weekend. If you are interested, let me know.

Hi Zonked. Judy has been making for a group of us for some time and we rarely have a problem.

She made a full length leather coat for one of my friends just a few weeks ago and it is lovely.

My hisband has all his suits made there and he is one happy customer.

Let us know the results after you've collected your stuff.

Does anyone know of a good tailor/manufacturer that can make, a few at the time, ladies swimsuits from a pattern and material that I will supply, either in Hong Kong or Shenzhen.? Marianne
