We're looking at going to Malaysia next month with our 2.5 year old toddler. We're looking at either Penang or Langkawi.

Can anyone suggest a child friendly resort in either of those locations? Thanks.

we took our 15 month old to Langkawi 4 seasons. The pool there is just gorgeous -and lots of fountains and shallow play areas. My daughter couldn't get enough of the fountains. At the time, my husband got it into his head that for the prices we were paying, service just wasn't good enough and spent much of the vacation complaining to the resort manager. Despite his constant dissatisfaction, I found the resort lovely and wonderful. They have lovely sitters so if you want to do an evening with your husband that's possible. They have a decent playroom, and they have golf cars which shuttle you everywhere, as the resort is really large and very hot.

i loveeeee langkawi casa del mar hotel on pantai cenang. gorgeous hotel, small pool but excellent food, wines (it's duty free so great wines at great value), little touches such as mint cold towels and watermelons when you are lounging by the pool. it's a small hotel. so it is not child-friendly in the sense that it doesn't have a children's pool, etc but i would think they have at the very least baby cot or babysitting services. check out their website. i keep wanting to return but because it's such a small hotel (30 rooms or so), it's usually booked to the max.

the beach is not the best but from what i understand it is more lively and less isolated than places such as the datai, etc. therefore if you want, you can check out the various chinese, austrian restaurant, etc instead of eating in the hotel.

my friend took her kid (turns 2 in may) to pelangi beach hotel which is also on the same stretch. definitely more child friendly (pools, etc) - they had a blast too so you might want to check it out.

enjoy, i wished i could go again soon although we still haven't tried phuket, which is what we want to do this year.

ok penang, i have only stayed in the city bayview hotel, don't remember much of it, way before i had baby!

fyi if you don't already know penang is just a 2 hour ferry ride from langkawi so depending how many days you plan for this trip, you can do both! lots of beqach front hotels at penang's batu ferringhi such as shangrila.

Thanks for your input, HKCC and Wheelymate. I've checked the websites for The Four Seasons and Casa Del Mar. Both are lovely.

I will now try to approach my travel agents here in HK to see whether or not they have packages with these hotels. Fingers crossed.

My friend has just been to Phuket, Wheelymate and she tells me that the beach is overcrowded during the holidays so you may like to pick a time that doesn't clash with the holiday season ;-)

Hi well the Pelangi Beach Resort in Langkawi is fab and perfect for children and so is the Shangri la in Penang. Out of the 2 I would go back to Langakwi everytime! Have a great trip

Most of the hotels along the beach area of Batu Ferringhi in Penang have kiddie pools and clubs. The waters in Penang are brown and murky and these days, they've got signboards warning people about jellyfish. The high end ones are the Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa, the Golden Sands Resort (both are Shangri-La group hotels), others are the Bayview Beach Hotel, the Holiday Inn. Langkawi will be better in terms of sea quality.

I have heard great things about the Club Med at Cherating (Kuantan) is for families and even has a separate kids club for 2-3 year olds.

Thank you all for your input.

We've finally decided on the Pelangi Beach Resort!!! When I goggled ALL hotels at Langkawi, it seems that Pelangi has one of the best reviews out of all. They also have a kids club.

The Four Seasons was fab (we saw the photos on their website) but too expensive for us :-( Maybe next time!!

Casa Der Mar also looks fantastic too and cheaper but they don't have a package with the travel agents here in HK.

Regarding Penang, oh dear...... murky and brownish water.... definitely not what we have in mind for a beach holiday so we haven't looked further into Penang.

We're quite excited about this trip. Apparently Langkawi has lots of corals to see and lots of rainforests to check out. We can't wait :-)

mayc, yeah!!

i envy you, your girl is big enough for the kids club....gives you and hubby time to relax by the pool!

i love langkawi, such an underrated destination! they have some underwater world, cable cars, etc. but pelangi is a good spot....it's along pantai cenang so there are other eateries beyond the hotel so good for variety.

have fun!
