Pok Fu Lam running routes

Could anyone suggest a good running route in PFL? I used to live near Bowen Rd so it was easy to measure distance. I'd like a good 5k-8k route starting from Bisney Road, preferably not too much of it by the roadside. Any suggestions appreciated.

There are several access points to the Hong Kong Trail and if you like a lot of steps and gradient up then carry on up to the Peak trails/roads, also decent run out to St Marys hospital or up Mount Davis, Pok Fu Lam reservoir/country park, the area has a lot of good trails but a lot of steps so beware.

Thanks Freddy. That's a good option and I know the park well. I'd quite like some routes after work though and would prefer not to be in the park after dark. Any suggestions? When I run, I don't like to think how far I'm going, so just want to do a set route knowing that it's at least 5k

You can do a route along seafront and/or cyberport, but might have to loop it twice.

I am sure you know this but sticking to 5km all the time you will reduce the benefit to your body as it "gets used to it" as it were, do use use a pedometer/heart rate monitor?

I don't use anything, but very well aware. Just want to make sure I'm doing AT LEAST 5k, but will run according to my mood anyway. I also do swimming and yoga etc so have a varied workout regardless

from Bisney Rd, go onto Victoria Road then right onto Sha Wan Drive, down to Cyberport and on through Cyberport past Bel-Air, up Cyberport Rd and back down Victoria Rd is min 6km ( I reckon just under 4 miles) and not a bad run for me.

Or up Bisney to QM and to the left of the last building is set of steps, once up those steps flat path all the way round to Po Shan Rd approx 2 miles one way.

ok just checked my routes and they're not nearly as long as I said. The only one I can say is 5k + would be along victoria road, up mount davis, up pokfulam, down sassion, left onto victoria the down and round cyberport.

Sorry to hijack this thread but wondered if freddy might elaborate or someone else of the "body getting used to it theory". I have never heard of that concept and wondered if it meant that your quality of exercise if reduced just by repeating the same exercise? Is that right?

what I believe Freddy is stating is that if you continually do the same distance at the same pace the benefits will drop off as you become fitter. For example if you first started running 5km at a pace of 9km/hr your heart rate may average 150bpm and your calorie burn may be 500Kcal. If you did the same distance and pace for a few weeks your fitness will increase, your heart rate will reduce and so will your calories burnt. You will then get to a point where running 5km will not provide much of a benefit and your fitness level will remain stagnant.

If I could run 5 k's at that rate - i would be more than happy for it to remain stagnant!

thanks for the explanation.
