Hi, I am almost due for delivery and I have to decide which formula to give to my newborn baby. In some baby shops and some of my chinese colleagues suggested me to use "japanese" formula as they said it is better than chinese. At Matilda's (where I will deliver) they used Enfamil, Nanha, S26 and Similal, which i am not sure I can find all of them in HK. Any suggestions or help will be very appreciated, thanks so much!
also, about bottles, i know nuk, avent and chicco, i guess they are all ok brands, right? Thanks so much for any comments.

Agreed with joshmomm. Unless your child has a cleft of some sort, the type of bottle is not really a big issue. You might have torun some trials.
BTW I'm sure you've already been told that breast milk is the best thing for your baby. Cheaper than formula too.

Dear all, thanks so much for your answers. I guess i am getting a bit stressed as I only have 3 weeks to go and it is my first baby ;-) and i haven't my family around to help me a bit. I did give a good thought to breastfeeding though, but I found I need to go back to work quite soon, like in a month, so not sure if it is ok only breastfeed the baby for one month and then pass to bottle fed, not sure if it is better to start from bottle from the beginning. reg. bottles and formula, i guess i will have to do what most of you say, see which one the baby like the most ;-) Thanks again!

Hi-
I was in the same situation- had to go back to work quite early after the delivery so I decided against breast-feeding & didn't regret it at all. It was a lot easier on my baby back then & the helper. I also couldn't put up with 'pumping' milk at work as there just isn't a 'nice' place & time to do that.
I fed Aptamil from Milupa.......it's not as sweet as the other brands it seems to me.
I was fed Milupa brands as a baby so I stuck with that brand.....I also used NUK for bottles & pacifiers, but I assume anything else will do as well..I just found more accessories such as bottles warmers are made for standard size as NUK has- Avent i.e. has different sizing so you need to look out for special products.......I also didn't like the silicone teats and prefered the latex ones from NUK.............good luck for your delivery!

The choice is yours of course, but I would urge you to give breastfeeding a go. Also yes, one month is much better than nothing.
My wife has worked full time from 2½ months with both our girls. Pumped and breastfed them both until 12 months (almost done with #2). It's just a matter of logistics. In the US there was a lactation room but here she uses the bathroom.
BTW our #1 had a cleft palate so she couldn't suck. Bottle was the only option. With #2 my wife just found it easier from the get go.

Yes Ona...give breastfeeding a chance...one month is definitely better than nothing and who know after feeding for a month you might be tempted to try pumping along with supplementing with formula..bfeeding and pumping is not half as hard or stressful as it seems before the delivery....had to go back to work pretty soon after my first one, managed to combine bfeeding, pumping and formula. With my second one, am at home so continuing to bfeed (along with pumping so that could give more time to the older one) supplemented with formula...
Give ur little one a chance to get all the amazing ingredients bmilk as to offer which will benefit him/her for a lifetime. Choice ofcourse is yours.
Wish you all the best for the delivery!!

NAN Ha is used by many hospitals in Australia (and here at the Adventist) as it is supposed to reduce the risk of babies getting allergies. It is available at PnS and Wellcome.
Second what every says above about giving BF a go.

a month of breast-feeding & then the baby is 'forced' to drink from the bottle- not having you around but the helper..........many of my friends had a hard time as their babies refused the bottle ...... I personally don't see any advantage of breastfeeding for one month........it's not about the milk- no doubt it's better than formula, but have you thought about the baby being used to the body contact & then forced to drink from a bottle................better start formula from the beginning if you are sure to go back to work after one month! Just a thought!

Hi...if babies are given bottle early like one month, the chances of them rejecting are very less. I gave mine at 6 weeks and there was no resistance. She started having one expressed feed from the bottle once every day after 6 weeks so that I could spend more time with my older one. For the rest of the time its was bmilk and this arrangement worked fine. Once u are back from work, you can also feed in the evenings and night. So baby gets additional benefit of that as well.
Also, apart from the baby, you will benefit from bfeeding too. The feeling it instils in you at that time is beyond putting it in words and its proved to be a major factor in driving away post baby blues.

"t's not about the milk- no doubt it's better than formula, but have you thought about the baby being used to the body contact & then forced to drink from a bottle................"
As joshmomm says, just express. Our daughters were on breast milk to 12 months, but only the second one ever got the actual breasts, and that was quite rarely.

All formula powders meet minimum standards required by law. No product is better than another.
Breastmilk is the best form of nutrition for infants which is well supported by the scientific literature. If you wish more information regarding feeding choices please see an infant feeding specialist at a child health or well baby clinic.

Hi Ona,
just read the entire thread....choice is yours for sure...but believe me breast feeding is not only great for the baby but does wonders for you. It will help you get back into shape faster : ) and lose all your pregnancy pounds sooner
Also the feeling of intimacy that you share with your child while breast feeding cannot be replicated by the bottle. You can start the bottle too so that the baby can have a formula feed while you're at work. Try and express and leave for work and when you're back feed the baby. Ideally give the baby formula at night so that both of you can get a good nights rest - babies tend to sleep longer once their tummies are full
I hope you do it...but ultimately do what makes you happy
good luck!
