We were going to buy a washer/dryer combo, but decided to stick it out with the one provided until we move in a few months time. However, i did a bit a research and the best I came up with was Whirpool (www.whirpool.com.hk). They had some good deals going. One thing you need to make sure is that the clothes are dried 100%, not 80% as most combo's do over here. The reason we chose Whirlpool is because that's what we had back home and it worked well for us. We went to the Kowloon Branch and the man spoke good english and was really helpful. Make sure you get the measurements right as well if it needs to go under the benchtop.

make sure you get the highest spin speed you can find, cuz the mor water removed in the spin cycle the better job the dry cycle will do.

Go to Fortress and Broadway and see what theyhave.

BTW those combos typically use condensing dryers instead of the hot air you see in a dedicated dryer. This means drying takes several hours at least. As specks mentions drying may not be complete. That's a technological limitation compared to hot air dryers. Even so some are better than others.

Also you don't get the fluffy feeling for your towels.

We have a Whirlpool combo and it's better than other types I have used in the past. If you wash a full load, however, I find you get better results if you dry the washing in smaller loads than trying to dry it all at once.

i think most of these machines recommend drying 2.5kg only, half the normal 5kg wash load...personally they would be a last resort for me, only if I had no clothesline outside...

I had one of these when we first got here- I have now moved to a village house and have enough space for 2 machines. The thing was - 80 per cent of our drying came from hanging up the clothes in the spare room. In the winter and cold months, I really appreciated the ability to 'finish' off certain items in my washing machine.

I am not sure that combos are the best way to go if you want to dry your clothes, but, if like me you want to finish them off, it was perfect. During the summer, the sun shone into the study and anything hanging there was dry within an hour.

It was also excellent for a quick wash and dry of something you needed asap. If you want to dry load upon load - then 2 machines are definately better.

As funbobby mentions, the combo machines can only dry about half of what they can wash.

Yeah it does suck. For stuff that doesn't go in the dryer, we put a rack in a bedroom, close the door, and turn on the dehumidifier with the exhaust pointed at the clothes. It's not perfect but it works.
