Hi all,
Any recommendations on websites or newspapers to find a second hand car? Something like these sites for example (which are for Australia).
http://tradingpost.com.au/
http://carsales.com.au/
Does anyone have any experience in converting licenses over from Australia to HK?
Thanks,
Michael

We bought a used car from somebody on HK island and found their aftersales service good.
A lot of used car dealers have leasing agreements for their cars to minimise working capital. If you are thinking of paying for one out right, you actually have to pay the penalty to terminate the lease arrangment.
The guy we bought owns all his cars and he has a wide variety of car to choose from. Viewing and testing is very laid back with no pressure. He serves a lot of expats.
If you are interested to check out this outfit, pm me for info.

Thanks guys. Hammerhead would love specific info. Prefer going on recomendations than anything else. After an Odyssey.

Here is a link on licensing info (again):

I don't think we can post any other websites on here apart from the ones sponsoring this forum because the two general motoring websites (for car sales similar to those you mentioned above but for Hong Kong) I listed have been deleted.

Hi Riceman,
Thanks for that link. Can you send me the links that got deleted via the PM system?
Thanks.

solomani - there are also a few car supermarkets in HK where you are able to view cars from a scores of dealers under one roof. One of the largest is in Kowloon Bay, 2 basement floors of the HITEC centre.
Are you looking for the HK Odyssey or something more like the JDM Odyssey Absolute?
Please support our advertisers:
I am no familiar with the JDM Odyssey Absolute. We only have the "Odyssey" in Australia and they are all 4 cylinders. I know Honda use to make a 6 cylinder version - are they available in HK?
Please support our advertisers:
No, the earlier Odyssey was available with a 3.0 V6, but the later version (2004 - ) is only available here with a 160PS 2.4 4 cylinder engine with 7 speed CVT. That is the official Honda HK model.
You can however buy the JDM (Japanese Domestic Model) on the second hand market called the Absolute which is the sportier version with a 200PS 2.4 engine and 5 speed auto with S-Matic and a lot of toys unavailable on the normal model.

Ahh thank you. You explained something that has eluded me for some years. When I lived in Japan I loved the Odyssey and thought when I came home to Australia I would get one. But the ones here all look like what you would call HK. And I just figured they were the newer models. When I saw the absolute that was the Odyssey I was after.
So they made v6 up to 2004? Is there an absolute version of this vehicle in HK? There are no v6 or absolutes here in Australia.
Please support our advertisers:
The Absolute was a model they started for the 2005 model year. Previous to that we do have the 3.0 V6 (99 -04 model) but there was no real sports model. Only after the new one was released did they do away with the V6 and put the high performance 2.4 with 3 stage V-Tech in.

No problem, if you have any other questions just let me know. When the Absolute became available I just had to have one myself! It's the only JDM model worth having.
There are standard JDM available on the second hand market here, but be careful if you consider those as the specifications may not match the HK models, however some may have a higher spec.

So if I wanted to buy a 2008 Absolute could I just rock up to a Honda dealer and buy one? Or they need to be specifically imported? What is a new one worth in HKD?
Thanks.

No they cannot sell through official Honda dealer. Current prices for HK Odyssey are around $270,000 for standard model and $300,000 for delux version which has a few extras, Xenon, electric rear seats, etc.
Absolute only available as an import. There are some dealers here that bring them in brand new, and i would expect cost to be around $350,000 now. Second hand you can buy say a 2005 for around $230,000 and prices go from there.

Wolfy - there are many different specs of Absolute. You want a good one for a 2005 you'll pay $230,000 from a dealer. $200k for a 2006, yeah possible but wont have all the toys and will probably be a high miler with no history. Surely you know this about cars........

out of interest are Ford Mustangs available in HK?
Please support our advertisers:
Imported only. Interestingly someone was selling one a few weeks back for $50,000. Was a 2005 470GTS. Was interested myself for a fun car. So yes a few around, but rare and resale is low.

50 HKD or USD? They cost about 100k AUD here so would happily spend 50k on one and bring back to Australia when my time in HK was up.
Out of interest where did you see it advertised and was it still left hand drive?
Please support our advertisers:
Was 50K HKD, and right hand drive. I will send you the link my PM if still available.
