MacBook repair

ORIGINAL POST

My daughter spilled soda on my keyboard a few days ago. I quickly turned it over and dried it as best as I could. It worked fine until yesterday when the click function of the touch pad stopped working. I brought it to the Apple service center and they quoted me $2100 since the whole key board and touch pad needs to be replaced! Does anyone know where I can get a second opinion or get it fixed for less? Thanks!

Ended up going to 298 Hennessy Road. Went to Hong Kong Computer Service Center. They charged 150 to have it checked and 450 to fix it! Thank goodness for this forum!! Thanks guys for replying, you saved me a lot of money.

Beware of CASE!!! CASE has completely dishonest people out to just make money off you. My battery wasn't charging on the macbook. The computer would work normally when a charged battery would be put in. It was due to some wine going into my computer. CASE charged me 600 bucks to just check the computer and then told me that they would have to change the logicboard and the display! I couldnt believe when they said display because I had shown it working to them. Budget quoted 7700 HKD!!! I told them to F*** off and decided to give it a try at the Wanchai Computer Center. I was sceptical about giving it there given the small shops which don't look very trustable. But I gave to this guy at shop no 151, and left it with them for the night. It was fixed by the next day and had only the power chip changed on the motherboard. Cost me 1700 bucks. I guess i was overcharged there as well, but given what CASE had done, I was very happy to get it repaired for that much. Just stay away from CASE World trade center.. completely untrustworthy. I wont even be surprised if they break things inside and give you a bigger quote.

After reading all these forums I went to Wan Chai comp. center to see all these Apple shops. They all are non certified not trained people just working with apple machines. I asked few questions from them about Macs and they were all looking each other faces as they have no clue or knowledge of mac logic boards and repair.

I am apple technician and working with apple for many many years and when I read about WCC i got excited wanted to see how smart these people really are. They hardly have any knowledge of apple products and Mac OS X. They are all PC guys who never used Mac before and now repairing macs. It is all crapsh*t.
