Citybus 962X across from Exchange Square should get you there under 40 mins

961 kmb from wan chai gets you to Tuen Mun Centre. If you need to Gold coast then only 962, 962x. Beware from 962 it's the longest ride ever.

It depends exactly where you want to go because Tuen Mun is quite big.
Get the 962 buses - they are quite good because most of the way is on the motorway or if you want to take the MTR then don't go to Mei Foo, change at Nam Cheong. It takes exactly 45 mins from HK station to Tuen Mun Station.

The problem with 962 is that it goes through gold coast and has lots of stops. the 961 is much much faster, it doesn't go to gold coast but directly to Tuen Mun centre, very fast.
about 961 - http://www.kmb.hk/english.php?page=search&prog=route_stops.php&route_no=961&bound=2&select_from=&select_to=
or go to http://www.kmb.hk/english.php and do a route number search if that link does not work.
If you want to Tuen Mun centre then 961 is your bus.

If you want Tuen Mun Town Centre, 961 is your bus. 962X (which bypasses Gold Coast and is very fast from Central to Tuen Mun) goes to Tuen Mun South (ferry pier area) and not Town Centre. Keep in mind, during peak hours, if you board in Central (the bus originates at HKCEC terminus in WanChai) you may have the pleasure of standing the entire way...
MTR site shows Hong Kong Station - Nam Cheong - Tuen Mun (across the street from Tuen Mun Town Centre) as 44 minutes...guaranteed seat as these lines are underused.

960 is the no. to take, about 40 mins from Central. Along the road with the trams (can't remember the name!)
funbobby, you are not guaranteed a seat any longer on the WestRail, used to be in the beginning!

basically the same rte as 961 for what the OP needs...both are good.
Getting on at Nam Cheong (the WR terminus currently) should get you a seat at any time of day...i seriously doubt that the train fills up at that one station

Katherine is correct - 960 is most direct - 1st stop in Tuen Mun is Tuen Mun Town Centre. 961 does get you to town centre too but it's the 3rd / 4th station in Tuen Mun. - adds about 10 mins to the ride (depending on lights and no. of people alighting). But I often find 961 more comfortable - less people take that route and the buses seem more spacious / new / cleaner. Same company - go figure. Basically take whichever comes first, coz it could take 10 minutes to wait for the other bus anyway.

962X does not go past Gold Coast it bypasses it on the Tuen Mun Road.
Both the 962 and the 962X do not go to Tuen Mun Town Centre, they both end at Lung Mun(which is not tuen Mun Town Centre but over the Tun Mun River)
Don't know anything about 961.
FYI- IO work in Tuen MUn, live at Gold Coast.
