Hi all. I need to get a travel cot for bubs rather urgently and have heard/read really good things about the P&T travel cots (T2 or traveller) i.e. lightweight, sturdy (won't topple over), easy setup.
I also understand that you are able to use it until bubs is 2/3 years old - can anyone confirm this!?
Question:-
1) Does anyone know where I can get the P&T cot in HK?
2) Or does anyone have a lightly used 2nd hand P&T cot they want to get rid of?
3) Are there any other cots which you have used that you would highly recommend
Thanks all.

They are indeed very good. Quite sturdy. I don't know about three years but certainly up to two. IMO children over two should be in a bed. They can climb out of cots and hurt themselves in the fall.
The big disadvantage is the same as any other travel cot. Baby is very low so you have to stoop deep to pick him/her up.
No idea how to find in HK. Have you tried Bumps to Babes?

Thanks for your reply axptguy. I have tried B2B yes and they do not have it. I think they have the Samsonite pop up cot but I heard they are not as sturdy and can topple over!

I think these look really cool! But I don't have one...

totally cool, small and light for travelling
If you travel in places (like most of Asia) where mosquitos can be an issue, this has the added benefit of mosquito net... then if you go to a hotel that can't provide a baby bed or a regular extra bed in the room, you still have a safe fun place for your kids to sleep.

I suppose it is possible topple the T2, but it would be very hard. The legs extend outwards quite a ways, and if it is leaned on the weight is concentrated on the bottom of the leg, in other words very far out.
BTW I think the T2 is discontinued and has been replaced with this: http://www.amazon.com/Phil-Teds-Traveller-Travel-Cot/dp/B0016LUPAM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1212115091&sr=8-4. You could try Amazon. Some of the sellers selling it through Amazon may ship to HK.

hi, we have the one from Mamas and Papas (B2B has it) and it is great, really sturdy, folds easily, good matrass.

Thanks all for your replies
Kinderkot sounds interesting but they are not in HK! Sob..sob
The problem is I am leaving next Wednesday and may not have the time to wait for shipment from a different country.
Thanks ldsllvn for your recommendation but I am travelling alone with the baby and that model is a bit too heavy for me (9kgs)
Goddess Kali - do you remember how long they took to deliver to HK?

axptguy - with the new model you don't have to stoop down low to put your baby in/out. It comes with an opening at the bottom of the cot. How perfect!

Neat. It also seems as if one won't be tripping over the poles all the time. The T2s poles curve out and the brain only seems to register the tops and says "I can pass here". I haven't hurt myself badly, yet, but the day may well come. ;)

have a look but phil and ted's is even havier than Mamas and Papas - the what they call "incredibly lightweight" on their website is 10.5 kg! Mamas and Papas is under 10kg.
we did a lot of research when we were buying ours (we have twins - hence 2 cots at a time) so we def did not want heavy ones but we wanted sturdy, so the min weight for a good quality strurdy cot was around 8 kg... The kindercot looks good - not sure how strudy tho - and not very much like a normal cot so I wonder whether kids freak out a bit when they go into it first?

Hi ldsllvn - the p&t cots weigh only 2.5-3.5kg including the mattress.

*you have to scroll down until you see t2 and/or traveller specifications
I am also looking at the kindercot ones now. Yes very nice I agree. And I like the idea of taking that out for picnics, beaches etc!!

I will agree with gum. There is no way that thing weighs ten kilos. ;)

it took them a while to get organised. i think 4 to five days. Also they charge a lot for courier. I did it with my company's TNT account (pick up and transport was 50% cheaper than what they were offering...

hi guys, ah yes! saw it now - must have looked at some otherh model before - the t2 is 2.5 without mattress indeed!

i am now also interested in the phil and ted's traveller. seems to be many good points but are there any cons?? it says it will sleep a three year old? is this true? my 15 month old is more like a 2 year old, size-wise. also, i like how it has dark mesh - do you think this provides adequate darkness when baby sleeps? my worry is it seems to be small and claustrophobic from the pics. is the mattress on the floor of off? i just can't make a judgement until i see it in the flesh but no-where seems to sell it in HK....
actually if anyone can offer any info on phil&teds traveller VS kinderkot, would be much appreciated! kindercot looks great too.

"it says it will sleep a three year old? is this true?"
In theory. However my 2½ year old would have a fit. She's slept in a real bed for over a year now. So she has no issues with hotel beds and such. Putting such an old child in a cot seems a bit extreme.
"my worry is it seems to be small and claustrophobic from the pics"
Not to worry about that. Small children like cozy spaces much more than adults do. It gives them comfort.

thanks axptguy. do you have the traveller or the T2? just a few questions... do you find it sturdy - could a 12 kg baby topple it? i keep reading reviews about the cords fraying and breaking - have you had this problem? is the mattress off the ground or on? how do you carry it when travelling - hand carry or check in? thanks in advance!
Please support our advertisers:
We have the T2.
A 12 kg baby on the inside could not topple it from the inside. There's just no way given how it is constructed. The spreading legs make it a very wide platform.
"i keep reading reviews about the cords fraying and breaking - have you had this problem?"
Nope, but we haven't used it more than perhaps 20 nights. Still looks new.
"is the mattress off the ground or on?"
On the ground. But of course the mattress is on top of the bottom of the cot. The mattress has quite an ingenious self inflation system btw and is at least as comfortable as a baby cot mattress.
"how do you carry it when travelling - hand carry or check in?"
Checked in but that's only because with kids you typically need to check luggage anyway. It comes with a handy bag becomes very compact when folded. It is quite easy to fit in even a small suitcase. I wouldn't worry in the least about it breaking due to handling.

just a tip. The US dollar is worth so little right now that you might get a really good deal through an ebay shop online. We've taken advantage of the exchange rates a lot and have even found that it's a lot cheaper after postage.
Worth a shot..

this time, after much deliberation, i didnt take the t2 with me. just a popup mosquito net which zips up and folds down. I put a mattress on the floor and the mosquito net around it, and baby (17month old) was really happy...... he hasnt figured out zippers yet so couldnt gt out by himself....
best of all the mosquito net only weighs about 0.5kilos, not to mention the fact that it's really cheap...
so have discovered that a baby travel cot is not indispensable...
Please support our advertisers:
hmm that sounds very convenient and light! however, i don't have a mattress at our holiday destination. but also - if baby leans on the netting, won't it fall over?
Please support our advertisers:
Sashimi girl, where are you travelling to? most hotels should be able to provide you with a mattress (i went to visit my sisters so both had n problems providing me with the mattresses). The net tucks under and around the mattress, so even if baby rolls off, it doesnt necessarily topple over, but just bends a bit and then straightens up once baby rolls back onto the mattress. it takes a wee bit of organising, but not more that setting up the T2..
i dont know if the nets are available in HK though. a friend of mine came over to SZ to buy them from the local walmart (they are about 150-200rmb depending on size). she too has an 18 month old and uses the net on a day to day basis..
