What do I need to do to renew my vehicle licence?
I have downloaded the form, but do I need a roadworthy certificate or something of that nature before paying for the renewal?
Thanks

How old is your car check the TD website for details on the roadworthiness requirements. I believe it is required for vehicles over 7 years old.

Could I jump in here and ask, what are the costs involved in licencing of vehicles in HK?
What does a roadworthy certificate cost?
What does the annual licencing cost?
Any other costs?

Thanks, I did search on the website, but obviously missed it. will have another search again. Unfortunately the car is older than 7 years. Thanks for the advice.

ebow3d,
How long is a piece of string. Depends on what type of car (engine size), preferred type of insurance (3rd party or Fully comp, owners age) age and condition of the car, availability of parking (free/rented), milage covered.

I'm just rrying to get an idea of the legal costs of owning a car in HK - not cost of maintanance, parking, etc. I know it varies for diferent engine size, but by how much?
So, does anyone know, both the costs, and requirements?
roadworthy costs?
licencing?
registration?
taxes?
insurance?
anything else?

All of this info is on the licensing website....but for an example I pay around $6000 per year for my 3 year old peogeot 307SW. I dunno how big the engine is but the cost of licensing varies based on engine cc and age of car.

Thanks Cara, that's the kind info I'm after.
I noticed that used cars are really cheap, compared to where I come from, anyway. They also have really low milage. I'm sure that has to do with the fact that people don't drive around there much. However, the licencing and insurance is by no means low.

Insurance (albeit 3rd part only) is under $1000 a year for my 2 litre Mitsubishi and annual road tax/licence is c. $6000. Local garage charged around $3000 for full service and putting it through the MOT etc. recently, and the 'only' other expense is fuel.
I can't complain.
